Happy New Year! After all of the celebrations and holiday festivities, we have crossed over into 2023. As we now look toward the spring season of this New Year, we can reflect on what we’d like our future to resemble. As human beings, we are in a constant state of change. Many people, at the end of a year decide a change or transition is necessary in order to become a better version of themselves. This reflective look assists us in tapping into our emotional IQ. In addition, it can prompt us to become more intentional about how we live our lives and; how we impact the lives of those in our circle.
However, as much as we’d love to have these intimate “I’m going to change my life moments”; it does not come easily. Transition doesn’t just happen, it can be a difficult task master. Transparency is our internal barometer that gives us an indication that it is time for an emotional checkup. It begins with being self-aware enough to embrace the ideal that we are all a work in progress. Once realized; we can see our role from another person’s perspective. It is then that the work to improve can really begin.
This prequalification is that down time we all need to look within to see if we are even ready to transition. Are we ready to move forward? Are we brave enough to find out why we even would want to; or why we’d want to remain stagnant? Transparency can lead us to transition and it may look different depending on where our area of focus may lie. Yes, it is all a part of empowerment and self-improvement; however it also means doing your work.
Transition could mean we are finally ready to face any fear or failure we may have endured in the past. It can also mean admitting we may need to seek outside help to overcome obstacles. It could also be a wakeup call to reclaim your faith that may have been lost in the noise of life.
No matter how we see transition, it will knock on the door of our hearts in one form or another. In order to be ready to walk in our new normal and be healthy emotionally we need to equip ourselves. We need to find out how to face or fix the brokenness in our lives so we can be fluid beings moving in the freedom we all deserve. As you embark upon this New Year, I admonish you to extend to yourself a lot more grace.
Last but not least, don’t give up on yourself because you are worth the fight!
